German government opens for non-European labor market in 2020

To remedy a cruel labor shortage, the German government has adopted a law allowing, from 1 March 2020, to welcome non-Europeans into its labor market. Before a summit on the subject, Chancellor Angela Merkel devoted her weekly podcast to the topic on Saturday (14). Caregivers, computer scientists, engineers and artisans: The list of activities and sectors in which Germany lacks skilled labor is growing. Unemployment is at its lowest level ever and 2.5 million people from other EU countries are already working in Germany, but that is no longer enough.
Beginning March 1, 2020, an immigration law that gives priority to skilled labor becomes effective. To prepare for its application, a summit is held on the night of December 16 at the Chancellery. In her weekly address, Chancellor Angela Merkel highlighted the risks of the current situation to the attractiveness of her country.
